WHY CONTINUED TRAINING IS IMPORTANT

Importance of Taking Gun Training Courses

Some people may believe that possessing a firearm is enough to ensure their own protection. However, it should be noted that whether gun owners have taken multiple firearm training courses or have never sought training before, they should reinforce safety principles by pursuing training. In a recent article titled, “Responsible Gun Owners Continue to Seek Firearms Training”, Jenn Jacques discusses the benefits of taking a gun training class.

Firearm Training is Critical Regardless of Expertise

Anyone who possesses a concealed carry permit or a gun should formally learn to handle it. Gun training courses are ideal because they are appropriate for firearm owners of all skill levels. If you are a beginner, these classes will help you to become more familiar with your weapon and learn how to hold and operate it safely. If you are more experienced, firearm training courses can identify bad habits and provide you with tips to fix them. In Jacque’s article, Chief Deputy L.J. Supenski summarizes this point nicely by saying, “The more training you have in use of a deadly weapon, the better off everyone is.” Not only will you benefit from this knowledge, but so will those around you.

Positive Trend of Gun Owners Seeking Training Courses

Jacques discusses that in states that do not require gun owners to take a gun safety course before obtaining a concealed weapon permit, applicants are attending the training classes anyway. She goes on to say, “The instructors aim to guide new gun owners through the many responsibilities that come with carrying a firearm.” If owners have a gun but do not learn how to use it properly or underestimate the care with which they should handle it, those around you may be endangered. Chief Supenski also comments, “What we teach is self-defense and every aspect of it.” The ability to protect yourself is a universal need. New gun owners understand this and, therefore, see proper training as a necessity regardless of what the requirements are.

Requirements for Firearm Training in Florida

Those who are interested in owning a gun or obtaining a concealed weapons permit should first learn the eligibility requirements for their home state. In Florida, residents must be over the age of 21 years old, live in the United States, have evidence of gun training, and have the ability to pass a background check. In order to prove competency with a firearm, applicants must provide a certificate of completion from a firearms training course. Most training facilities offer a single day course focused on specifically training gun owners so they can be eligible for a concealed weapons permit. Six Maritime is different in that we do not believe that one afternoon is a sufficient amount of time for someone to master the fundamentals necessary to safely possess a concealed weapon. Once shooters complete our Tactical Pistol 2 course, they will satisfy the requirements for a concealed carry. Our instructors also encourage applicants to take the Tactical Pistol 3 class as well, which focuses more extensively techniques for having a concealed weapon.
