Firearms Coloring Book Highlights Gun Safety

Recently, firearm safety in regards to children has been a hot topic. Many people have attempted to outlaw gun possession on the premise of protecting them. However, others have taken a different approach through education. Sara Westman has created a firearm coloring book for both children and adults to facilitate conversation and fun between parents and children.

How a Coloring Book Promotes Firearms Safety

When asked why she had the idea to construct a coloring book with pictures of guns, Sara Westman responded saying she wanted “a high-detail, visually-correct firearm coloring book” for herself. Westman believes that the accurate depictions of guns will teach children how to identify all guns, not just handguns. However, her goal does not stop there. Each coloring book also includes the four rules of firearm safety. While drawing in these coloring books is meant to be fun, they are also supposed to create opportunities to talk to your children about how to behave safely around guns.

Benefits of Early Gun Safety Education

As a gun owner, your knowledge from your gun safety course should not end with you. If you have children, it is important to talk to them as well. Even if you do not own a firearm, it is imperative that you teach your children about gun safety so they are prepared if they ever come across one.

Guns Affect People of All Ages

Firearms have their advantages but they can also be extremely dangerous in the wrong or inexperienced hands. Even parents who responsibly lock up their firearms every night may walk away from their gun for a minute to use the restroom. If a child comes up during this time, he or she must know what to do next: stop what he or she is doing, don’t touch the gun, leave the room and notify an adult. The younger children are when they learn these steps, the higher chance they will have of avoiding hazardous situations. However, the book is not just for children, adults can benefit too. While adults take time to color with their children, they can become educated as well. If parents want to ensure they know how to disarm a gun, they should consider firearms training.

Educational & Fun

Children learn best when they are able to engage with the subject matter at hand. This coloring book allows parents to educate their children while simultaneously making it exciting. With the current popularity of coloring books for adults, the firearm coloring book can be entertaining for all of those who are involved.
