PRACTICING SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

Thinking about worst case scenarios and training for them may make the dangerous world we live in more real, but preparation will help protect you in life threatening situations. Unfortunately, in today’s world is not uncommon to hear about shootings in public areas. Hopefully, you will never encounter such a dangerous situation but if you do, you want to be prepared. Taking a course on situational awareness at Six Maritime will teach you how to notice a problem and how to handle the situation.

Importance of Professional Awareness Training

There is a difference between practicing and training. Training involves consulting a trained professional and learning various techniques while practice is implemented by an individual in order to perfect a skill. Both are necessary when a person wants to learn to become aware of their surroundings. Without proper training from people who have experience in similar situations, you will be wasting your time. Further, even if you have received awareness and tactical training in Gainesville, FL and do not put them into practice, you will be no safer than you were before.

Levels of Awareness

There are various levels of awareness that have been defined by the NRA. They are Unaware, Aware, Alert and Alarm. When you are Unaware, you are oblivious to what is happening around you. For example, if you are listening to headphones or texting on your phones, your senses are distracted. Being Aware is the opposite. It is the state in which you are actively attempting to remain mentally present. If you are Alert, you have noticed something that is not quite right which makes you become more cautious. Extreme scenarios cause Alarm, in which you know that something terrible is occurring and you must find a solution.

Tips to be More Situationally Aware

Having a concealed weapon is a useful backup plan if you are unable to escape from dangerous situations as long as you have attended professional concealed carry classes. However, if you remain mentally active, you will be able to avoid these situations in the first place. In order to do this, you must find ways to stimulate your mind. Do not allow your eyes to stare constantly on the ground cutting off your field of vision. Instead, keep your eyes on the horizon. Even better, read each sign you see on the road. This will help you to remain aware, and it will also help you keep track of exactly where you are. In the event that an emergency occurs and you must call 911, you will be able to let them know where you are. If you are in a building, this is also beneficial because you will know immediately where your exits are so that you will be able to escape quickly.
